I'm looking at alternatives to my TSU9600 and was wondering: Can a non Pronto remote talk to the RFX9400?

For example, iRule wants to communicate via wifi with a Gateway (to Convert ethernet to IR). iRule supports products from Global Cache like the GC100-6. I was wondering if my RFX9400 would work. iRule support thinks the RFX9400 is locked down and only communicates with Pronto products...I just want to confirm if that is correct.

Any thoughts appreciated.

That is indeed correct, the protocol is locked down and not intended to operate with other equipment. However, with Wireshark, you might have some luck reverse engineering the protocol.

There was a grassroots open source project named ProntoNIC that never gained much momentum (google it). It attempted to communicate directly with RFX9400 without using a Pronto.
