I'm looking to get one of these with a view to controlling it via a TSU9400 and RFX9600 (RS232) and I wondered if anyone else had tried it? The YSP-4100 is quite new but I expect it will use existing Yamaha codes?? I'm aiming to be able to have "bookmarks" for volume settings and perhaps "real-time" feedback of the volume level?

Is this going to be possible - I realise there will the usual potential issues with the RS232 processing within the RFX9600 that I hope careful programming will sidestep (buffering etc) but I'm more concerned about the Yamaha code support.

It will likely use same codeset as other soundbars from Yamaha. There may be a few extra/different codes from other but the core codes will be the same.

Not sure about 232? Have you checked Yamaha site? They are usually excellent about posting stuff for Pronto.

Thanks for the reply, Lyndel. I did have a quick look around Yamaha UK but that's probably not the ideal place for Pronto stuff. Will have a good search round their US site later.

You can download IR and RS232 Protocol info for the YSP-4000 here. No info for the YSP-4100 there yet.

Cheers

Make sure you join pins 7 & 8 together on the sound bar end of the D connector

Likely you will need to follow the advice of bridging pins 7 and 8 of any connector as the RFX9600 extender does not support the CTS/RTS pins. It only supports TXD, RXD, and Ground (pins 2,3, and 5).

I ended up just using the IP commands which Yamaha elected not to make as cruel as their rs232 protocol

Even better. Mind posting a link to the protocol specification so others have this option as well?
