I would likely prefer the TSU9400 as I've not heard much feedback about the 9200. However, my opinion is ONLY one of many on this site.

ive used the 9200 a few times, and it is a good little remote but if its anything more than a fairly small simple system, then i will use a 9400 etc.

but if your only after an entry level remote is does do a good job.

i use nevo Q50 and S70 when possible,
but some systems need a good cheap remote,
and harmony is not an option.

ive just sold two of these . . lets see how it goes
(two separate jobs)

i just really dont like that you cant use global macros.

im also not so fond of the on and off buttons on the top.

wish they werent there at all . .

just activities on main screen,
and all off on main screen.

i htink i might disable those buttons.
easier then making a ALL OFF macro for every activity for off button.

i guess ill understand it more when i have it in my hand and test it . .

the power on and off buttons do cause a bit of a problem, i always use the screen for all operations, and some clients have got stuck by reverting back to the hard buttons.

do check those buttons havent had commands added to them by the editor tho when you add a device, as it will try.

ive been deleting all commands/macros from on off buttons thus far . .

it wouldnt be so bad if we can apply a global macro to the off button . .

why o why cant they just add global macros!

lol, not such a big deal.

im guessing the recent price drop indicates a new model at ces?

I ordered the TSU92000 several weeks back. Had it basically running in a few hours and posted here the only problems I found - none were deal breakers. At these incredible prices, I think its the solution I have been looking since I started Programing the Pronto 1000 about a decade ago. I have ordered two more.

I downloaded and used the latest device templates and only added a few learned IR functions. I use it with the RF extender.

I strongly disagree with the post stating essentially for simple tasks only. Everything I have wanted to do in hard button that I do with my Pronto 3000 it does that and more including using it as a remote in other rooms for other TVs. That includes creating your own graphics. What I miss is duplicating an activity which only slows programing IF you duplicate a lot (I don't) but it doesn't prevent any activity. That can be fixed in future releases.

Over the years I developed my own Pronto programing format and the Configurator software is structured almost exactly as I naturally program it with regular pronto SW (I have not used Pro though, did they add a "return to sub rt call" function?). A global macro would be nice but not necessary. I find the final Word configuration report form it generates useful (they need to finish the report in future releases).

I think the ergonomics are not ideal but good. I find it looks great but the transport buttons are a little low and the edge of the unit digs into the palm slightly. But that is a personal nit really. All other factors considered along with price I rate it FIVE out of FIVE stars for my needs. I kept my 3000 nearby for backup for the first week but never needed it.

I think the decision tree is 1) Touch Screen or Hard button 2) If Hard button then Pronto, Harmony, URC (or Denon's OEM version). 3) If Pronto this now or maybe wait and see if the low prices fore tell a new product (at higher prices) or a Recession special. Local prices have not dropped.

There maybe a new model on the way!
Phillips have on new remote coming next year, the Philips Prestigo SRT9230.Maybe they might make a new TSU9200 (TSU9300) that may look something like this,

Amazon has these right now around $100, and I don't think you'll find anything better at this price than the TSU9200. My wife, who I couldn't convince to so much as pick up my old tsu3000 loves the new remote. There are minor gripes, the numeric buttons are a bit small and placed a little awkwardly at the very bottom of the remote. The aforementioned lack of global macros. And I'm still trying to find an easy way to incorporate commands to control a mulit zone or "Zone 2" amp. (though, admittedly, I haven't tried very hard yet).

The good definitely outweighs the bad, it's not nearly as customizable as other Philips remotes, but it's insanely easy to program, and there is no lack of hard buttons, and if you find you need extra buttons, just map any command to that device's More page. I haven't tried the RF extender, but for a simple single room system the IR works just fine. You could point this remote up, down, backwards, and sideways and it still works flawlessly with a Xantech IR remote kit.

I'm definitely sold on this remote. The company I work for sells RTI remotes almost exclusively, and although this remote can't touch the pricier T2C, it absolutely blows the screen-less T1 out of the water at a similar price.

if its your remote and your programming it, then it may be a different story, but in my experience as programming them for clients, the 9200 can become a little tricky to use where the system has more functions.

im not saying it cant be used for more complex systems, just that the bigger remotes deliver a better result.

mattDC5R. To be useful we probably need to get specific on what simple v complex means. I currently go through the usual: lets say watch TV. Power On TV, Denon AVR then select HDMI input for TV, select TV/Cable input for the AVR and jump to a list of 20 favorites in order of most watched. While watching I can go to the "more" screen and query the front panel AVR status and dimmer. If I want to adjust the DRC level for True HD I hit home and select the AVR device and set the level.

Maybe the thing to do is to put forth a scenario you think the TSU9200 cant handle easily and I'll take a shot at it. I can imagine a difficult scenario but my guess is this unit covers 90% of most applications. I've only done one for others so I don't know what the difficulties are for installers. Again specifics would be useful. I found more of my time was spent sussing how each component worked rather than how the Pronto worked (e.g. my Motorola wants a leading "0" for the two digit channels; Pronto doesnt like leading zeros but has a function that will allow a pre and post command. I used that for the leading "0").

Now if we were talking $399 I would be singing a different song but for $100 its a great remote. Even if obsolete in two years.

first off . . i dont see the remote for 100$ anywhere . .that would be brutal . .

[Link: google.com]

lowest price is $160 but avg is over $200

$100 is way below dealer cost.

regarding more complex . .

i am attempting to control a 2 zone system with 5 sources.

i already did the programming but wont have the remote till monday or tuesday (my first ) (my 2nd will be this week also, but on a simpler system)

the 2 zone system consists of
pioneer display
onkyo rcvr
8300hd
apple tv
sony blu ray
am fm
ipod (via cd input)

i wish the configuration had a emulator mode that lets you test out a virtual remote on your computer to see how using it would look like without actually loading on remote.

either way ,
i disable all the on and off buttons in every activity . .

i have an activity for watch cable, blu ray, apple tv, ipod, fm, zone 2, and all off

in zone 2 activity i have zone 2 on, off, and source selections etc . . (ie Z2: iPod, Z2: Cable etc)

all off shuts everything off and goes back go home screen

on all the activities,
i also have zone 2 commands on the screen (same commands from zone 2 activity)

the new srt9230 looks great,
and im happy they added usb to it for future firmware upgrades . .

a "pro" version that is rf capable would be great . .

lets see what happens in CES

ill know my wish list for this remote come thursday the latest.

already i wish it had a better IR database (at least better names, im having trouble finding a samsung plasma model because mostly they dont even show model numbers)

also wish it was slightly less wizard based . .

Have you downloaded or tried the Only 1 Remote Database from Philips?
It has one device called Samsung Flat TV all Models 2008.
