ProntoEdit Professional 2.0 (PEP2) is the successor of ProntoEdit Professional 1 (PEP1) and can be used to configure both TSU9400, TSU9600 and TSU9800 panels. Unlike PEP1 the user interface has fixed windows with a single page view and permanent properties overview. The My Database concept is similar as the one used in PEP1 but now you can also store RS232 codes.

The gallery can now also store pages and activities so you can put often used graphical elements in the gallery (you can copy them from the tree into the galley).

To quickly build a project (configuration file) you can use the Quick Start Wizard. Also for advanced users this is a helpful tool as it saves time and takes over the tedious work. It builds automatically the tree and activity macros (based on the template that defines how the AV equipment is interconnected). After using the wizard you can still tweak the configuration file as you like.

Another significant change is the location of the Activity macros (action list to start e.g. Watch DVD activity). The macro is now part of the Activity itself and not stored on the Home page buttons. A new command ‘Activity jump’ will jump to the chosen Activity and execute the macro.

Examples of other new features are:

Different fonts can now be used
Backgrounds can be set on activity level
Images can be resized
My Database can handle conflicts in case IR codes are different from the project
One way RS232 codes in My Database
More advanced drag & drop operations
New IR code database with more model numbers
Easy change of system items (like WiFi and battery icon)

What should I know about PEP2?

Please close all other Pronto editors before installing PEP2.

PEP2 has some important conceptual changes compared to PEP1. As links are no longer supported, some issues with importing XCF’s that are created in PEP1 can occur. The way to keep the XCF intact is by preparing the file in PEP1 before opening in PEP2:
Explicit links to My Database codes are seamlessly converted to the new implicit link codes. Therefore step 1 is to convert "non linked My Database" learned codes on the code pages to My Database.

This is done by opening the XCF in PEP1 and:

1. Make sure all the IR codes in the code pages have ascii names (no symbols)
2. Do a device--> right click. Save to My Database. Add correct info (brand, type, model)
3. Open ‘Database quick access’ and re-drag all the codes to the code page

With these codes as a link destination, at the XCF import the codes will be remembered

First PEP 2.0 bug:

Use the default install location. I put it on a drive with more room and got a message:

"The system configuration project is either not available or corrupt. Please reinstall the application and try again."

The installer created a "Program Files\Common Files" tree on my target drive (E:) so it could place "Pronto\ComponentDatabase.DB" in it. I suspect it is looking on the C: drive for this and that's why the error pops up. Anyone else tried installing somewhere else than the default location?

--Later--

An uninstall and install at the default location worked. Then another uninstall and reinstall to the non-default location worked! Most strange, but new interface looks good and the database structure has not changed, although a feature has been added to open "Another database" and copy a codeset from it to My Database. Exactly what the program I wrote last week does except you don't have to go through the backup/restore step.

It looks like every man and his dog is downloading it at the moment. It's been going for 25 minutes and there is still 94Mb to go. It's like being on dailup :)

Ron, That is exactly why I posted what I did earlier regarding your efforts. I was not able to freely comment at the time as software was not public domain.

And you can have a different background on a device (now called activity). It goes over the system page background but under the items on the system mpage.

You may wonder why it took so long to release PEP V2.

Lyndel, myself and others were invited to start testing V2 late last year.

There were lots of things we really liked but there were some things that we did not like. There were some lively discussions but Philips really listened and made some substantial changes (some of then architectural).

Anyone else seen a problem with the database.

I am using the Yamaha RX-V2600 amplifier. I select to use this in my user database (from the philips database). I then add to my project. When I open the project again all the codes within this device are showing as errors (conflict between the project and the database - seems the project have no actual IR codes present).

I can replace the device with the user database version, but each time you load the project the same problem returns.

This happens with no other devices that I use, although I have tried a few other Yamaha ones such as the RX-V3200 and this has the same problem.

Anyone else have this problem, or can you repeat it?

Can you still use V1.1 after installing V2? Thanks. SJ

All,

Can we keep this thread focused? Please don't post problem questions here. Open your own thread.

SJHart. The answer is yes. You can still use PEPV1 but you cannot open a file saved with PEPV2 in PEPV1 so keep 2 copies.

HSSSmith,
Excellent question/issues but please start new thread.

There's no reason for Hidden Activities as there's no Device Overview Page as was present on the NG series. In PEP1, this was present only for migration purposes.

Now you can copy and paste a list of functions (macro sequence) from a button to another, witch was impossible in previous PEPs.

The project I'm currently working on imported reasonably well. I have a projector that is RS232 controlled and it took all those codes and actually created a device out of it which surprised me. It would have been nice to take that one step further and actually tell me that it did that and ask me to name the device (it just called it "unknown device")

I am seriously missing links though. I have an activity list on the side of the screen that changes based on the current activity (the current activity is not shown), so I have to copy and past the macro to each instance of that activity icon on all pages! I haven't put this remote into production as yet and I cringe at the thought of having to modify ALL those macros if need be when I go to test. The ability to change it once is now gone.

I understand that I can put these activity icons on the system page, but then I'm stuck with the same icons on every page, or if I cover one up with another somehow, I still need to manage that macro manually.

My other major complaint is that you can't alter properities when the layout is zoomed. Why?!? Very frustrating!

Other than that, I'm very happy with the interface and the general design. It is much more logical and integrated than 1.1. A much better platform to grow from.
