Hi,

I'm looking to replace my 9600 to something more modern, future proof.
This remote must have Wifi to control Home automation (legrand-bticino) and Global cache devices, Sonos, Kodi (xbmc) and must be fully customisable.
Touch screen is not a must. remote should be small for use with 1 hand and WAF
I have been looking around on google but could not find anything.
But i'm sure this can't be right.
any suggestion?

jpcolin,

Future proof? I don't think that this is possible.

I assume that you are comfortable with ProntoScript. Since this is really JavaScript, I suggest that you look into TouchControl.

There will be some culture shock because the programming environment is dramatically different from ProntoEdit, but TouchControl is the most flexible platform that I've found. I was able to reuse some of my ProntoScript, but much of the old ProntoScript is unnecessary because TouchControl can directly deal with Global Caché and lots of IP protocols. One must develop the configuration on a Windows platform and the target is iPhone/iPad. You could develop a SONOS controller, but it is so easy to call the native SONOS app and swipe back into TouchControl, I'm not going to bother. (literally this is a one line call on a URL button) If you need a protocol or capability that is not currently supported, the developer is very responsive.

My user interactions are much smoother and faster than I could accomplish with Pronto. And, there is more screen real estate available on a pad.

TouchControl can use Apple Watch.

If you can recognize IR commands, any handheld with buttons can be used.

how do you plan to control sonos and kodi by IR?
IR is in my opinion an old school method, no feedback, you have to point the device,...
Like i said in my Original post, averything is controled by wifi, TV and home cinema by RS232 for TV and amp, just IR for settop box.
sonos, kodi, home automation by wifi.

My thoughts were to decode IR buttons with some sort of central controller or computer, then send WiFi, RS-232, etc. as needed, from the controller.

Beyond the basics of Volume/Play/Pause, you'll have a difficult time dealing with Sonos exclusively using hard buttons.

As you are discovering, very few companies can afford to bring out a custom handheld similar to your Pronto. For a similar or much lower price one can purchase a full pad or phone that can perform many more functions. One of the reasons these pads and phones can be so cost effective is because they don't offer many hard buttons. Most of the public will gasp and become angry at the price of a Pronto style remote compared to the cost of their pad/phone that was "free" when included as part of a cell package.

Remotes that do offer some buttons are bundled with controllers and professional programming.

I would prefer more hard buttons on the handhelds too, but these are not in the DIY scope at present.

I can't, but you might be able to make do with a Harmony.

the controller in my case is my global cache. but i understand your point, it's true everytime is find a nice remote it has to be bundled with a controler. in fact i just need a wifi remote, that can communicate with my network.

I have looked into harmony but last time i checked, it could not control xbmc (kodi) by network just IR!
Not sure about the global cache.
What a shame i'm stuck

It is not at all what you asked for, but look into TouchControl -- if you have an iPhone/iPad. The development platform is free, the iPhone/iPad run time is inexpensive. The user interface can be as slick as anything you have seen or can imagine.

Yes, I miss the Pronto hard buttons, but since I can develop much richer and faster user interfaces, I would not go back to Pronto. (Of course, if Pronto had continued its development, we would not be having this conversation because later Pronto's could have used faster processors and richer graphics too)

I'm not familiar with Kodi, but if it can be controlled through a browser link to a web interface, you can specify this as the URL for an HTML button. Otherwise you can recycle your ProntoScript as you recreate the buttons.
