Hello,

I own the LG BD390 player and was wondering if there's any way I could use the remote designed for the LG BD570 player with my player.

The reason is the remote control that the BD570 uses is superior to the BD390 one.

If I could purchase the remote control separately and have it be compatible in some way with my player, that would be fantastic.

Please let me know if this is possible. I seem to remember it has some universal options as well (however, it may be locked to the specific version of LG player).

I've heard often of people using remote controls that were designed for another version of a device with their device... this has in the past been sometimes possible with or without a code hack.

If someone could inform me on the possibilities, that would be great.

Thank you!

P.S.

I do believe the remote controls for the 5xx series of LG Blu-Ray players are the same.

My gut feeling would say yes, but there are others here better qualified to discuss LG ir protocols.

Different layout yes; superior is open to question.

You don't mention a location in your profile, but I have found these . . .

Searching on the respective part numbers may give alternative suppliers.

The only "universal" option available (which both remotes are capable of) is the (limited) control of a number of brands of TV. The manuals list LG, Zenith, Goldstar, Samsung, Sony and Hitachi.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Please clarify.

The second link above suggests that to be the case.

N.B. The manuals for both players can be found here and here (the former being a 3.9MB pdf and the latter a 9.8MB pdf).

Thanks for your response.

I was basing the "better" remote off of reviews I have personally read. I own the BD-390 player and its remote is on the flimsy side.

To clarify, in the past I have observed people doing the same thing I am asking to do which is use a such and such remote for such-and-such version of a product, which was designed for another version of the product. I just haven't seen other people talk about using the newer 5xx series remote with the older 3xx series players is all.

I was merely stating that I know from observation that for certain devices this has been possible; but I didn't know if it was possible for my device.

I live in the USA. I will try the links you gave me. Thank you!

Does anyone know or also assume that the LG BD570/590 remote is compatible with the LG BD390 device?

Thanks!

Wow, I actually sent an email to the company listed above and they said if I use the remote designed for the 5xx series of devices with the LG BD-390 device I have, I will lose the following features:

MUSIC ID
AUDIO
SUBTITLE ON/OFF
SUBTITLE
RESOLUTION
PIC MODE
TV MUTE

It's great they know that, but I'm disappointed that these won't work. I don't know how they know that information, but if I had bought the remote and not been able to use the above features (at least the subtitle and audio) I would have been annoyed.

Hmmm... interesting.
