I'm trying to help my brother's in-laws with a remote problem. I'm not sure which Direct TV remote they have but my brother was trying to program their Panasonic DMR-E55 dvd player to it and the only codes it provides to try is 20490 and 21362 and they don't work so are they out of luck?

I think the code 0490 is kind of a universal Panasonic dvd code but it probably won't work with the Direct TV remote will it?

Along with the couple you've already mentioned, the "Big Button" manual also gives 20503, 20703, 21462, 21490, 21762. Failing that, try a code search.

N.B. Not sure how "universal" 0490 is, but it is used in this remote.

Assuming the DirecTV remote takes 5 digit setup codes, then 20490 is the same as Video 0490. The leading digit implies the kind of device-- 0=Cable, 1=TV, 2=Video, 3=Audio.

0490 (or 20490) is Panasonic IR protocol with device 176. It definitely will control the DMR-E55, and just about any other Panasonic DVD/PVR. However, the DVD can be set up to use three (maybe more) subdevices. I don't know how those are set up on the DVD, but 0490 will control only the base (as shipped) subdevice. I'm sure the DVD manual will tell how to set the subdevice. Maybe it calls it a channel.

My panasonic dvdr came set to "set code 3", which there isn't a code for in the Directv remotes. Going into the menu of dvdr and setting it to "set code 1", then code 20490 in the directv remote will work.

Which only goes to prove there's no substitute for experience. :-)

For anyone needing the DirecTV RC65 remote code for Viore TV LED32VF60 (32" LED), the code is actually listed in the "Akai" remote codes (Akai makes the Viore-branded TV's). The code for this particular LED TV is 10812.
