I am looking to touch base with a certified Crestron programmer / installer to possibly assist with some projects in the New Orleans area coming up in early 2013. If you are an
independent professional who doesn't mind working with and educating me on the ins and outs of these systems, drop me a line with a brief paragraph of your commercial experience and any projects you have recently completed.

I have 15 years of IT experience and I am considering branching out into commercial a/v and I would like to compensate a crestron programmer who has commercial experience for actual programming and design assistance as well as training.

I want to be clear in saying I don't expect you to train me on how to program. I just need a detailed understanding of how some things work, and what you might be able to do for me going forward. I'd like to contract out the design and programming, while keeping the sales and installation in house. If we are a good fit it will probably lead to future work.

First job would be a franchise restaurant, ground up a/v system. 70+ tvs, 8 sats, 4-6 zones, 40ish speakers, pa, wireless mics, lighting, headend system with looping internal channel.

Give me your ballpark estimate on programming labor...1 week, 2 weeks?

I can compromise on a lot of things but quality is not one of them. I give my customers a professional job which is why I'm here seeking out some of the best talent around. Let me know if you are interested.

Well, if you are just moving into the field, no offense, but good luck getting set up with Crestron. They want a good track record in the industry for them to even consider you.

Thanks Greg, no offense taken...yeah I'm quickly finding that out. :-) Any kind words of wisdom for a new comer to the field? It's interesting they aren't very receptive to younger companies willing to give them focus, versus being the 3rd or 4th tool in the box for any given project. I completely understand protecting the brand though.

I'm no stranger to technology, and to be honest my customers are pushing me in this direction. I've always been intrigued by automating and designing systems. Learning product lines and integrating aren't new to me. My goal is to build a small team of pros I can trust to do the work, contract at first, and then full time as we ramp up. I don't do things "half way" though, so if I can't find any skilled talent locally, I'm either going to look farther out or outsource the more skilled tasks we don't handle ourselves. If I can't wow my customers then we'll pass on the job until we can. That's the way it should be in my opinion, but you'll always have those guys who you come behind and see their mess for what it is....crap. We want to do respectable work, and reading and learning from the experiences of you guys here has been a real pleasure.

Thanks for the response!

Take a look at this.

There was a time that only crestron or amx were the only ones around but now you have companies that are easy to get started with and to stay with, and they can do all the same stuff. Key Digital compass control can also do what you're looking for in regards to the job you mentioned above.

If you set on crestron check into their C.A.I.P. program, you can also start with them with prodigy and work into the full line.

They can do some of the stuff...not all "the same stuff". Stay away from prodigy. It's being abandoned.
