I am using the DirecTV app and think it's great so far. After reading here about the options to make an i-pad remote with global cache and the various programs available, I can see that's some amount of learning and work for me to start from scratch.

Is it possible to combine existing apps somehow to make your own custom remote for all your gear if they each have their own app? Onkyo receiver, DirTV, Blue Ray and TV? Put together some macros from multiple devices?

I'm not computer literate so I have to ask the possibly dumb question.

Thanks.

Not unless you can get a hold of the source code for all the different remote apps you need, if they were/are open source, it would be possible but you would have to be familar with the programming language used.

You will need the RTI Panel App and an RTI Processor a wireless network and have it programmed by an RTI dealer. One app that will control all of your gear.

It is awesome, download the template from itunes to check it out!

You could try getting a universal network IR adapter like the iTach and then use an app like iRule to create a custom interface with custom commands for each button/device you'd like to add.

A fair amount of investment between hardware & software costs and your time of course!

It's been over a year since we saw AT&T first demo a U-verse connected tablet app with second screen companion features it called "ComplemenTV" and last week it officially launched for the iPad. AT&T U-verse for iPad can act as a remote control for any the company's DVRs in the home, as well as pull in extra info about the content that's playing. If you're away from home, it can still pull up guide data, program the DVR, or play a selection of VOD shows just like the U-verse's other mobile apps. what it doesn't have however, unlike many other pay-TV tablet apps out there, is live TV streaming of any kind. Of course, it is a free add-on, so check after the break for a quick video demo or hit iTunes to download it yourself.

No it is not Apple is the problem they do not allow app in app execution. You need to go to a outside control system.
