I've got all my AV gear in a rack, off in another room, not in line of sight. I've been using an MX-3000 RF remote to control it and that works well. I'd like to have a way to use my new WM6 PDA (a Verizon XV6800 phone running wm6) to control the gear in a similar fashion. I have no desire to try using the IR interface on it. I'd like to be able to send the commands to a PC over IP connections. I can do it either with the EVDO internet connection (presuming I have the outside firewall configured to pass the traffic) or via WiFi on the home network.

I'm aware this would require some program running on a PC to handle translating the received IP commands from the remote out to IR. I've got a USB-UIRT that could be used for the purpose.

So, is anyone's PDA remote software capable of doing this?

As far as I know the upcoming RemoteControl II, v3.0 can handle this:

Alternatively you could use the slow and sluggish Netremote :)

T-K,

Can you elaborate a bit?

When RemoteControl II v3.0 is going to be released?

Any insights?

I am a registered user and I love endless hours I spend tweaking my RemoteControl II 2.12.

hi, I just thought of doing something similar but not sure about the IP into IR conversion. Are there devices that can handle this (ideally over WiFi). What are you refering to with USB-UIRT? rgds cb

this is me again....I looked up the USB-UIRT....now what I am looking for is stand alone device that performs the function of the PC with USB-UIRT. Basically I like to communicate with that device using my PDA running a remote software via WiFi network. That way I could convert my PDA into a universal remote contol that I could use throughout the house. The device I am looking for would be sitting with my A/V set and receiving signals through the WiFi network and converting them into IR....
wouldn't that be nice. does anyone know how to do that?

I did have a NeVo controller with wireless. Also with a IR RS232 converter from Xantech. But I found this too slow, especially the RS232 control.

I have since replaced this with a Philips Pronto with RS232 extender.

What I am missing is details on how if possible to control a PS3 over RS232 -> USB or over TCP/IP

Also want to look at interfacing my Siemens EIB system either via RS232 or TCP/IP.

If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch....Intelliphone does exactly this.

Intelliremote Client for iPhone/iPod Touch is a native iPhone application that allows you to control your home theatre PC running Windows. Since the iPhone uses a network connection it does not need "line-of-sight" like traditional infrared remotes and you can use it anywhere in or out of your house! Intelliphone also acts as a wireless keyboard and mouse so you can get rid of those in your living room HTPC setup and just use your iPhone since you always have that on you!

Wireless Keyboard and Mouse like a Logitech Dinovo Mini? YEP.
