More specifically, how well does it work for watching TV, mainly recorded, but sometimes live?
I have plenty of experience with PCs. I do not have plenty of experience with Media Center. I know you can throw a tuner card into the PC, and watch TV and use it as a DVR. I know you can use the Xbox 360 to access all of your content. I am not afraid of the hardware or software. I will probably end up building a dedicated PC to use for this purpose.
My goal is to move the Tivo to the bedroom, and set up the Media Center PC in the office, then use the Xbox360 in the living room to do everything from watching live and recorded TV, streaming photos, music, videos, etc. from the PC to the TV, Netflix, Vudu, and of course play games.
Anyone with specific experience with this kind of setup please chime in and tell me if it is worth pursuing or if I should give up before I start. :) Thank you.

As long as you stay in the microsoft sandbox ie: Microsoft's audio and video format's you will be fine. Its when you try other format's like MKV/MP4/M4V where you will have issues.

That is fine. I can work around the hacks and patches to play anything I need to. I am mainly concerned with the stability and preformance for watching live and recorded TV. On paper, it should be fine, but we all know how reliable paper can be. :)

Stability and Microsoft should probably not be used in the same sentence. WMC is a very unstable product; lots of freeze-ups and typical PC related issues. Dumb down the system as much as possible, autorun WMC and consider control.

Yeah that is what I am concerned about. I do not want a DVR that misses shows regularly or requires my wife to call me in the middle of the day asking why the TV is broken. :)
I would really love to jump on board with the new Ceton Q but alas, they do not support OTA. Only cable card. Lamezorz!!1!!1!1111!!

This thread is old but if you are interested I have a Dell server with 7 tuners,3 antennas, 5TB storage and 4 Xbox 360. Works fabulous but I did not start out this way. I Started with a clone pc, 1TB and 2 tuners one antenna and Xbox. First off use cat 6 GB networking, wireless does not cut it here. Secondly you need one CPU core per extender or it will be choppy. More tuners prevents the ‘no tuner message’ min 1 per extender. Great to have a program guide just like sat or cable.

I have been using Plex as a my home server to stream media to my Xbox, Android TV and home theater.
