Have ATI RW purchased in 2004 with ATI video card. Remote works fine immediately after boot up. However, the RW software quits running at random, usually after about 30-40 minutes, with an error box that says: ATIRW has encountered a problem and must close: send - don't send error message.
What could be causing this and how to fix???
Thanks for the suggestions.

Well, if you don't know then it's probably safe to assume it's not that recent. Go to ATI's site and get the latest version (you'll find it under "TV tuners").

Have run RW uninstall and downloaded new driver from ATI, twice, the English only version, and the multi-language version.
Still doesn't work. No error messages, icon on task bar says new hardware recognized, red light on USB receiver is on.
Other suggestions will be appreciated. (New batteries in remote today)

Could you get any details on the error that's generated, ie. caused an error in what file?

Unfortunately, no. Error box only says that "ATIRW has encountered a problem and must close" Also included, 2 buttons; send/don't send report.
Since the download of driver from ATI (see above) it won't work at all.
I think the "current" driver from download site is the same as original on CD.
The exe file name is the same: 3-04_rw-enu.exe Looks like a file from March, 2004. I boght the video card and RW in April, 2004.
Both downloads finished normally, and "new hardware detected" icon came up on bottom bar. I have also run the "repair" option in the software, which also says, repair completed successfully. The red light on the receiver is always on, same as when it is working.
Additional suggestioins really appreciated. I need this thing to control on-line video to front projector. DenverDick

Sometimes the SEND button will offer additional information after the report is submitted.

Unfortunately the RW won't work at all now, not even on boot up. So, can't get to the error report send button. I doubt it is a problem with the remote unit hardware, since it worked off and on.
Is there any way to test the remote unit??? The receiver always has the red light on so it is powered.
I can find no troubleshooting software built into the driver.
I did the driver downloads - see above message - and tried the original instillation disk.
Any other suggestions will be appreciated.
Are the later versions of this remote more reliable???

Well, the Remote Wonder is basically made by X-10... the newer versions aren't that dissimilar.

Do you have access to another computer where you could test it on? It could be some driver/hardware incompatibility... have you tried other USB ports, not using a hub, etc.?

Daniel, sorry to not respond for some time, I've been out of town.
Thanks for your latest suggestions. I have another computer I could use, unfortunately the ATI software CD that came with the video card/remote doesn't appear to have a way to get at the AIW software. Looks like you have to load the entire video card software. Don't want to screw up the second computer with strange video software.
Any idea on how to get software/driver for the remote only???
Thanks, DenverDick

If you go into the subdirectories on the CD you'll find separate locations for everything. And you really only need the remote drivers for testing (just download them from ATI's site).

Daniel, I downloaded from ATI the file: 3-04_rw_enu.exe and loaded it on a second desktop computer. Unfortunately, things are never simple. Even though the wizard says it installed and it shows up in "all programs" there are 2 error messages: "MFC71.DLL not found" and Error1904.Module C:\ failed to register HRESUIT2147220473
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks again for all your help.

Daniel, I was able to load RW software onto second computer. All checks say it is working properly. Red light comes on the remote when buttons are pressed.
Red light always on the USB receiver. So, it doesn't work on the second computer either. Any suggestions???
Thanks again, DenverDick

Well, to clarify the red light always should be on the USB receiver - it just means it's getting power.

Unfortunantly without a second remote or receiver, it's essentially impossible to tell which of the pair is broken.
