So all the front runners for POTUS on both sides of the isle are 70yo+.

Being POTUS is a pressure cooker job and the older one gets the more susceptible to a stroke or heart attack we become.

So what happens after the election and whatever oldster we get has a stroke that reduces that person's abilities? Will the opposing party demand the VP take over? Will the POTUS party try and keep their person in office and try to ignore the reduced capacity, all in the name of their party? Will they accede to having the VP take over? How long would it take for the opposing party to start talking about another election?

Stroke and heart attack? What about dementia? The current occupant shows all of the signs of losing his mind ("oranges" of the investigation?).

So while I think he must go, it doesn't make a lot of sense to replace him with someone who is, maybe, on the verge of losing it. The two white men at the top of the polls are just too old, in my opinion, to make it through 4 (or 8) years in this stressful job (so much golfing!).

We do have the 25th Amendment, but should we really elect someone knowing that this is the backup plan?

I like Uncle Joe, but he just did it again by conflating three stories into one. And he would just be more of the same moderate Democrat and not much would change. Bernie (the Communist - oh the horror!) Sanders would have been my preferred choice in 2016 but you Can't Always Get What You Want (Trump, why do you keep using that song at your rallies? It makes absolutely no sense and the Stones have asked you to stop). I'm afraid Bernie is too old now too.

Maybe Elizabeth Warren will be the nominee. She'll scalp Trump at the first debate (see what I did there?)

What happens if he gets shot? what happens if there is a serious accident? what if he is in his 40's and has a heart attack (happened to a friend of mine)? as for Heart attacks my dad had one over 25 years ago and after surgery and a bit of rest at the time he is still going strong. I don't see why age matters for the right person to be the leader.

As for early elections, I am neither an American or a political expert, but here in Canada (and many other democracies), there can be a vote of none confidence (or similar) and that triggers early elections but as far as I know there is nothing like that in the US. If, for any reason(health, impeachment, quitting....) the guy stops being President the VP becomes the new President and there is a clear line of successions. There can never be early or late elections they are always in Nov every 4 years. That is why in the US presidential elections are a tag team event and it is "I am running with X for vp) they could be stuck with that second guy as president for 4 years.

I think the days are gone when we will get truly great men to run.

Ignoring political leanings, the men with the best character will get so hammered and abused by the other side... I don’t think a really good man will want to put himself and his family through that.

for me it simpler then that, even if a great person were to run there is no way to win without $$$. And there is no way to get $$$ without making deals with the devils. And if you win they will be there asking for you to return the favour.

So, to take your thought a step further, when money and favors is the name of the game, how is it possible for a thinking person to claim one party has more integrity than the other, unless you make that claim with some political bias?

Just thinking.

I haven't seen any republican candidates, for any office, pledge to only accept small donations from individuals and not from PACs - please correct me if I'm wrong. Many Dems have, and continue to do so.

You may be "Just thinking", but you're not thinking it all the way through.

I’m not sure you have made a point. If every candidate is bought and sold, why does it matter where the money comes from?

You must be the king of False Equivalency!

What you seem to be saying is that if Joe Sixpack gives Bernie Sanders $10 he will have the same power and influence over Bernie as an Exxon Mobil lobbyist.

The amount of money, as well as where it comes from, makes a huge difference. Even if it didn't, and in some bizzaro world the thousands of individuals who donated small amounts will have an agenda based on what the people want and not what the insurance industry, Wall Street and the petroleum industries want.

Since we agree that money gets people elected, I can’t see any logical way that one side and only one side does it the right way and the other is wrong.

Both sides identify their source of power and support, and get bought off.

I will repeat:

I guess I underestimate the power of ten dollars.

I just have to figure out who I can buy off for $10. A meth addict?

where did I say that I think anyone has integrity? my point was anyone with integrity can't make it in this game.

But what you are really missing is that it is not Black and white but a millions shades of grey. Lets take a simple example Tim asks Tom how he is doing and Tom says OK, is that a lie if Tom feels like he is starting a cold? yes, but we call that a small white lie because for the most part people asking "How are you doing?" are not looking for imaginary or real minor problems.

Same thing with politics I would really care if the favour is to make it legal to torture and kill Remotecentral.com members and I would not want that person in power. On the other hand if my neighbour wants to change the zoning laws so t they can sell cakes from a stand on the street then I would fully back that favour because she is an awesome baker and it would be convenient not to have to go further to buy a cake.

but the truth is you can decide no to vote because they are all corrupt and none of them have integrity (and then shut up because you are part of the reason that person s in power) or hold your nose and vote for the person that will hopefully enact stuff that you think will be best for you.

So that really is the heart of the matter, and the reason I take exception to people who believe their party is the righteous one and the other is a bunch of thieves.

Honestly, they are all looters, just looking for our hot buttons, and pandering to them in order to keep in power, and in wealth.
