Every 4 years we go through the seemingly never ending circus of candidates for POTUS and their promise of change. The general public wants change and thus buys into this promise.

However the President is the head of only the Executive branch of the government. The Legislative branch (Congress) has a much greater say over what our government does.

Yet members of Congress are almost always reelected. Once in, you have to really screw up to not get reelected. Though not a Congressional race, this is, sadly, typical of American reelections when the candidate has a less that sterling reputation: [Link: thedailybeast.com]

The American public is fed up with Washington DC government and wants it to change. They vote for a POTUS candidate to get that change even though the change has to come from Congress. And they reelect the same scoundrels over and over.

It didn't work in the last election, the one before that, and the one before ......

Isn't this the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over expecting the results to be different?

It's simple. The problem is with the other 434 Congressmen and the other 98 Senators. Theirs are good.

Actually the problem, and it was created by both parties is the gerrymandering of congressional districts. These almost guarantee the incumbent will be not only relected, but that the incumbent has the freedom to move, or maybe they were already there, to the far left or far right.

Congress works best when the 2 or more sides have to come together and compromise. Many people don't know this, but Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill were actually good friends. They would meet in private, hammer out a compromise that each side could live with and got it passed. Now it is all "my/our way or the highway".

The "my/our way or the highway" is basically a Republican mantra. Mitch and his refusal to even consider a nominee for the Supreme Court vacancy being only the latest in their quest to keep our Government from functioning.

Step 1. Republican comes up with idea.

Step 2. Our President says "hey, that's a great idea!"

Step 3. Republican screams "No way are we doing this!"

green eggs & ham, indeed.

Actually I think in this case it is a bit of bad blood between the two parties. After all, how many GOP House passed bills never got a vote or hearing when Harry Reid ran the Senate?

But I guess that's OK. Same thing, but this time the shoe is on the other foot.

Now I do think they should give him a hearing. And then they can vote no, but give him a hearing. If he is an anti-gun as the reports say, he will lose 5-10 democrats votes as well.

You nailed it.

You nailed it.

But how do we fix it?

I would love to see us do away with the party system completely. Too many decisions and laws as based on party first and not country first.

Why is it members of both parties claim to be patriots yet they continue to put party above country?

Exactly. It's getting the same here in Canada. We even have appointed critics in the other parties, too stupid. I understand certain issues like abortion or the right to die based on your beliefs, but what about the things that are good for everyone? Why if one party comes up with a good thing, the other(s) disagree based on politics, not what's really right.

Billions of tax payer dollars are being wasted and things aren't getting done. You get into politics now to make a name for yourself, not to do good. It's very sad.

As a Canadian watching you current election, it's f*%king hilarious!!! I can't believe people would actually vote for Trump or Cruz, they're both racist idiots.

Why do you think they are both racists?

Is wanting to prevent people who are not citizens from entering your country illegally grounds for being a racist?

Just asking.
