Since a lot of people seem to be having problems with their 900s lately, I thought it was a good idea to start a dedicated thread on the subject here in the new forum. Last night I was paying particularly close attention, and it appears as though a button will fail to respond on my remote at least one out of every 10-15 times. Try as I might, I can't seem to acertain any type of logical pattern. It just seems totally random to me. The problem affects cursor keys, number keys, LCD buttons, you name it. My beep is set to on, so I can instantly tell when a button press fails to register. Like others have already pointed out, the remote always responds when the button is pressed a second time.

I tried several things that I thought might fix the problem, including:

1) installing fresh batteries
2) loading a completely blank configuration into the remote and then re-installing my current configuration
3) flashing back to an older configuration

Unfortunately, none of these helped whatsoever. Something funky is clearly going on here, and I encourage others who are experiencing similar problems to post in this thread so we can get to the bottom of this.

Loraquest,

As you have probably read in this post [Link: remotecentral.com] we have identified this to be a possible firmware problem. A temporary solution is to make sure the back light is turned on when you use the remote. My testing, so far, indicates that the button press problem goes away as long as the backlight is on.

Eric at URC has my file and has forwarded it to the engineers in Korea. They hope to have a permanent solution to the problem within the next month. It takes time for the engineers to first identify the problem and then come up with a solution to fix it.

Patience is a virtue in this case and I'm confident that URC will resolve the issue.

No, not a nut. See [Link: remotecentral.com] to see how to reproduce this.

I've been playing around with my remote this evening, and it does appear that having the backlight on solves the problem. I sure hope URC figures this one out in a hurry or it's going to cost me a fortune in batteries. :)

I'm almost positive my remote was working perfectly prior to July 25, so it must be related to the firmware upgrade that added Page +/- and Nav +/- capabilities. Since I have no use for those features at the moment, I wish there was a way to downgrade the firmware until a fix is found.

I talked to URC concerning this issue and they assured me that it has nothing to do with the latest update that added the Page +/- Nav +/-. I believe it's something else in the firmware.

Rest assured URC is working on this issue right now.

URC/Eric/et.al. .... could you please ensure you post to this thread to keep us updated on this issue? I do a lot of 900s, so I'm particularly interested in ensuring this is resolved, and the word sent out to those affected w/the problem.

Does this affect _all_ MX900s of a specific firmware level? What firmware?

BTW, does this problem affect *macros*, or just direct button presses?

I'm not sure on the firmware issue but I do know it effects at least the latest firmware.

It affects both single commands and macros.

I've never had a macro skip a step, if that's what you mean. Its just the initial button press that's unreliable.

Correct. The macro always works IF the button press works. Obviously if the remote doesn't register that a button has been pressed then the macro/command won't work either.

It's only been a tad over two weeks. Eric indicated that it would take AT LEAST 2 weeks to get the issue resolved.

I've been using my 900 more often and it has been getting worse. The number of times I have to double push a button is crazy. I love the remote, but it is driving me nuts.

And is anyone finding that it is terrible at learning?
When ignorance is bliss, ‘tis folly to be wise.
