Looks like a Windows 10 update messed things up. I could not see " "Windows Mobile-2003 based device connectivity" anymore. Reinstalled WMDC and then went through the steps in the original post and it worked.

Wonder if this post should be a "sticky"?

I can't see the "2003 based device connectivity" line either. I also can't download WMDC. It says there's a dvrupdate-amd64 error. Any suggestions?

HA! I had to come back here to read my own instructions to get my remote to sync as I just updated some programming.

Your remote has to be on and running for the "Windows MObile-2003 based..." option. It won't appear if the remote sleeps.

I am glad this instruction manual has helped a lot of people.

I have a backup of my CCP but should it ever fail and I loose CCP, my only ask is that some kind soul helps me if they feel I helped them (I obviously have the program now)

I'm running Windows 10 ver 18362
After doing everything in this thread I can connect. I'm not sure that all steps were needed but I did the following.
1) Change the CCP program to run as administrator under compatibility settings. Then run the MDC installer from within CCP

2) Under computer management changed both
Windows Mobile-2003-based device connectivity
and
Windows Mobile-based device connectivity
to Log On using the Local System Account and checked allow service to interact with desktop. Additionally under recovery I changed all failures to Restart the Service.

3) Applied both registry patches from the stackoverflow link.
[Link: stackoverflow.com]

REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RapiMgr /v SvcHostSplitDisable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WcesComm /v SvcHostSplitDisable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

from a command prompt. You must run the cmd app as an administrator for this to work.

4) From device manager find the unknown device that will show up when you plug in your remote. In my case a MX980. Install the driver from the list in the CCP program file location.

Now it works. Yea!

This is what I was able to get to work

1) Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and click on Turn Windows features on or off.

2) Check the boxes for .NET Framework 3.5 and press OK.

3) Change the CCP program to run as administrator under compatibility settings.

4) Then run the MDC installer from within CCP (green circle at top under tools tab)

5) Click on Start, and then click on Computer Management > Services & Applications > Services. Scroll down to right-click on "Windows Mobile-2003-based device connectivity" to select Properties > Log On. Switch to "Local System account" with checking "Allow service to interact with desktop" then click OK.

Thanks for everyone's help over the years. This forum has saved me many times.

I am running the Mx-980 Editor (beta) and have been going through these forums in an attempt to update my remote. I am running Win 10 and can not download WMDC. I have tried to update the drivers but Wins indicates it has already installed the preferred driver. I've enabled Offline files. I've enabled .NET 3.5. I've run the editor as an administrator when launching.

I still get an error when trying to download the settings to the remote. Forever grateful if someone can provide some direction. What am I missing?

This support video found at the link below walked me through all the steps to get WMDC to work in Windows10. Once WMDC was operating, my URC MX-980 was recognized and I was able to run the CCP Programming software with no problems! At long last! I hadn't been able to get it to work since WindowsXP.

ALSO: Note that the registry hack utilized during this process (also discussed in the video above) contains a character in the registry hack string immediately after /d that is a "1" (i.e. the number ONE) NOT a "small L". They look the same when typed in a DOS window, but are obviously different. See below:

REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RapiMgr /v SvcHostSplitDisable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WcesComm /v SvcHostSplitDisable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

If you are copying and pasting these strings into your CMD window, it should work fine. I watched the video on my ipad and then tried to re-write the first string into the CMD window on my laptop since I couldn't copy and paste on a different machine. I initially got a syntax error saying /d had an invalid value. But, once I changed the small L to the number ONE, the operation executed succcessfully.

Process accurate and works as of September 2020

Hi Folks,

Been ages since Ive needed to fiddle with my remote/s. I have 2 MX-980's and a MX-880.

Anyways, I'm having a hell of a time getting them to connect to my pc after putting Windows 10 on.

Windows 10 Home 64 bit(10.0 Build 19041)

In 'Device Manager/Mobile Devices' it shows up as 'URC USB Sync MX2'

I have added the command prompt scripts as above and both completed successfully.

In 'Device Manage/Other Devices' there is 'Unknown Device' with an exclamation mark, I'm assuming it has something to do with that,

No matter what I do, I cant seem to get "Windows Mobile-2003-based device connectivity" to show in 'Services'

Any advice appreciated

I've been struggling with this for months. That little tweak to the service did the trick. Mahalo.

Glad my post has helped a lot of people.

Personally, I think this should be a sticky.

Hey everyone it's 2021 LOL

I've tried everything I could find on the web for a mx-980 driver Windows 10 as well as what's posted here.

There isn't a drive loaded on the mx-980 either.

While in CCP I do hear and connection sound when the 980 is plugged or un-plugged.

When I try to download a remote file from the "Send To Remote"
I get a popup "Download error can't connect"

I am not sure what "driver" you are referring to. I am not sure there is a specific MX-980 driver . I suggest you go here and reinstall WMDC completely and then repeat the steps in the Oringal post. Then report back

Funny. How human.

I am glad this instruction manual has helped a lot of people.

I hope you've gone back to the original steps you listed, editing them to include the details that others have added.
I have a backup of my CCP but should it ever fail and I loose CCP, my only ask is that some kind soul helps me if they feel I helped them (I obviously have the program now)

That will definitely happen and already has. That's one of the wonderful things about this site.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Confirmed this works on Windows 11 too. Thanks!
