In terms of ergonomics, button placement, ease of programming, usability in the dark, responsiveness, etc - which is your favorite URC remote?

In the last several weeks I have purchased and programmed the MX-5000, MX-890, MX-1200 and the MX-990 for my Main HT. My favorite is by far the MX-990. It has all the right buttons and the remote feels and looks good. The MX-1200 is second, it is smaller than the 990 and the touch screen is cool at first but I do like the buttons better on the 990. The MX-5000 is awesome to hold but the battery life is a pain in the ass if you do not charge every couple of days. I use the 890 in my master bedroom. It is like the little brother to the 990. I use RF with all of them. IMHO look no further than the 990. It has it all.

Yes, the 990 is one that I'm definitely considering. I don't see a Favorites button. Would I need to use one of the screen buttons for Favorites?

Just program a 2nd page in your TV activity that would contain your favorite channel buttons.   Hit page up and you are there.

I modified about 30 Favorite Channel Icons for the 990. I can send to anyone who asks.
@duct tape.. Do you know why the MX-990 doesn't allow programming of the Main button with a press hold like the the MX-1200? Also there is no "integer variable" on the 990 like the 1200 or did I miss it?
Thanks in advance.

My favorite is the MX-5000, but I'll admit I haven't tried any of the others. Battery life hasn't been an issue, but we always put it back on the charger when we're done watching.

On the MX-1200 I set up a Variable Integer to track current activity so that I can return to that activity no matter how many pages I've navigated away from it. I use a press/hold on the MX-1200's main button to go back to the current activities' device. I have eight activities and each has an integer number from 1 through 8. I set up a macro with if/thens that track which activity was chosen. I use the main button press/hold to go between main page or current activity. This Variable Integer is not present on the MX-990 and was wondering why it was removed or if in different location.

Also... Your picture doesn't show on 2 of my PCs.

Got it now... Thanks so much for the tip about the Main Button.

Any ideas about the Integer Variable Macro?

I usually keep it simple and just create a variable for each activity. When the user selects cable, for example, it sets the cable active variable and clears the rest. A "Now Playing" button allows the user to jump to his/her current activity.

I have had the following:

MX-810: Horrible, so horrible in fact they no long make it.

MX-900: My first and was a great remote for its time

MX-880 (3): Great remote. Bought one for my parents as well. Ended up having charging issues and had to buy a "camera" charger and keep swapping the batteries

MX-980: Used this in my HT as I needed the logic to deal with TOADs. Used it for almost 10 years and other than a couple of battery swaps, still going strong.

MX-780: Bought on a whim for my daughter. She loves it.

MX-890 (2): Bought one for the LR TV when one of the 880's got a little wonky. Loved it so much I replaced the 980 in the HT with one of these. Best URC remote I have ever had. The power of the 980 with much better ergonomics.

So my favorite is the 890. I have never had the 990, but given its size is similar to the 980 and I much prefer the feel of the 890 there is no reason for me to try one.

I really like the MXW-920, and I don't have a pool or spa.

MX-810 all the way!

I went up all the way to TRC-1280... they went too far with overcomplicating everything, it's hideous... Nothing works instantly like IR or RF, nothing is obvious, nothing works flawlessly... You can control everything, but it should not be considered HiFi remote, TC is a smart home system with crippled AV side functionality...

I love all those negative reviews and opinions on 810s, but no other has Activities/Devices hard buttons!
It is by far the easiest and most logical way of having easy access to "now playing" and parallel access to specific controls of hardware if needed.

I see that everyone is having hard times with keeping track of activity on all other but on this remote. No wonder that Harmony was so popular, and MX-810s were Harmony on steroids.
I'd love to have it in New - upgraded variant, with USB-C, cradle charging and CC software, it would be unbeatable for simple AV setups.
