It's obvious with your other comment about what you paid you really just couldn't afford the actual costs. It has nothing to do with being able to program it. Anyone wanting to purchase a remote through me, I'd be happy to let them program it themselves.

EVERYONE EVERYONE EVERYONE coming here looking for the software has purchased the remotes from eBay/craigslist/etc to circumvent paying MSRP. It's fine and well, no worries with that, but the software is what ensures that we can make a dollar selling URC. IT'S NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION. It's as simple as that.

I'd ask what you do for a living but you've already proved you're willing to steal to get what you want and how you want it, I have no faith you'd actually be honest either.

I am hopeful I raise my two sons to have more morals and values than people such as yourself portray.

Guys, there will always be people who rationalize software theft by saying, "There's a way for me to get it, therefore I shouldn't have to obtain it legally," or, "I WANT it, so they shouldn't make it so hard for me to get it." Those people are not the same ones who loot and steal, generally speaking. It's very easy to hide behind "I want it, and I can get it, so it 'shouldn't be' illegal."

But it IS illegal.

However, there are some surprisingly sophisticated ways to track down people using and/or distributing pirated software. For me, the first clue would be that any software with a "Live Update" button has to contact the host server in order to be able to tell you that a new update is available. But hey... that's just me. I'm just one of the people being stolen FROM... what do I know?

I'm glad this stance is here. I for one would like it "stickied" at the top of the forum.

It would be a phenominal advance if we could get some sort of license going on. Wouldn't be very difficult to make it query the URC Control room with your username and password when you started it up. Bam, problem solved.

I think the last few posts have the effect of misstating URC policy.

Authorized dealers are allowed to distribute copies of CCP to clients who purchase URC hardware from them. That's always been the case and hasn't changed. I don't think the past few posts that suggest that end-users and DIYers aren't allowed CCP is either correct not should be left as the impression one gets from this thread. The problem with using the "URCControlRoom" as a check is that end-users and DIYers with legitimate copies of the software are not allowed to have control room accounts.

That is to be distinguished from copies distributed via torrent or other means for the purpose of circumventing URC policy.

Doesn't matter, it would never happen. Just wishful thinking on my part. Maybe do like crestron and just have the check for updating the software.

To be clear, yes: URC dealers may share a copy of CCP with their clients, at their discretion. The whole point of this policy is to put the choice in the hands of the people most directly affected by it.

Go ahead, track me. Or should I say try to. How do you know I didnt get it from a dealer and finally got the software legally? How do you know I am not using someone else's WIFI illegally? I am apparently such a bad bad person, you wouldnt put it past me right?

I understand not wanting to support the software but why try an tie the hands of the END USER? Distribute the software and remotes then let the END USER figure it out. Ohh wait, thats what I did so whats illegal about it?

I wish I hadn't bought one of these and wont be buying or recommending URC to anyone else because of this.

Careful what you wish for. It's quite easy to find out who, what, where as soon as you post on forums such as this. For instance it took me a couple minutes to not only find your WAN IP (I'll be kind and not post that) but that your reside in or around Wilmington, NC. You've also been to Las Vegas February of this year and happen to enjoy boating. Anything else you want as proof that you could be tracked and/or shut down?

Thanks for trying to be even more of a douche. You are wrong and even if you werent, I got this software 100% legally from a dealer, I just happen to know a torrent link where the software is. Information that anyone else can find as well.

Keep trying buddy, I am done with this forum.

Well, URC _did_ sell a MX880...as well as the other 17 that came in the master carton as the OP's, soooooo what's your point here? Mr. Park just wants sales.

It doesn't matter, Dan Mayo. You were NEVER going to purchase that remote or any other from a legitimate dealer, so your empty threats are falling on deaf ears. URC already made that sale to the guy who put the item on eBay for you to purchase it, so they could really care less about your second-hand purchase. (Which I'm assuming you purchased on eBay since you paid well under actual cost for the items, the only place that could occur). I mean you purchase your HDMI cables form Monoprice, I'm shocked you didn't go with Harmony in the first place.

I am constantly baffled that this situation constantly comes up. You can get Crestron gear through eBay. There is almost NO CHANCE you can get the software though. There isn't this large self-entitlement going on towards Crestron and their software.

I am looking forward to the day when they do away with distribution and CCP remotes altogether and just sell total control to direct dealers. Let Harmony and ProControl fight over these basic remote sales.

Hi Dan,
I have a client who needs to have his remote re-programmed and would really appreciate if you can send me the MX-900 Editor program.
Thanks... and have a great weekend.

That's on par with what a client told me recently: "My brother in CA does the same thing as you guys so he will supply all of the equipment per your specification, you can install and charge us your full labor/programming and client supplied equipment surcharges". Cool, no problem. Installer gets out there...of course things are either wrong or b-stock or don't work. Asks client for contact info for his brother so we can process the returns and good new product. Client hands over a receipts from Amazon. When I got word of that I called the client up and said and I quote "Damn, I didn't know your brother owned Amazon.com...the crew is packing up. Good luck".

It's times like this and catching people in lies that allows me to goto sleep at night with a big grin on my face :-)
