After programming a lot of Yamaha Aventage receivers, I keep finding missing codes or codes that just don't work. Is there any way to help URC get the data corrected?

Every code you could ever need for the Aventage series receivers is on the YamahaPAB site.

We do tons of Aventage and all the codes are there. Build your templates so you don't have to access multiple receivers for multi-room systems.
See our Youtube page for info about smart homes, great audio and more.

The Aventage codes are there, but I all they do is sweep codes over from prevoius models blindly, without bothering to check if anything changed. I can completely understand if something is not updated; they are busy- i get it. But why bother to "dummy up" the database if codes are different, even if they didn't change across the board?

For example, just look at the Denon line. The commands and functionality even inputs change from the 2911 to 12, to 13. But if you look at URC those codes are the same as if nothing is different. They completely overhauled their inputs. Even their new Directv models don't work. The HR25 exit, info and left button are wrong. Don't even get me started with Marantz Receivers, your lucky if anything works on the newer models. Epson line is missing a ton of models and codes that ae newer or even recent years. It's just not a good database. I guess it doesn't matter in the end because there are a lot of other ways to get codes, but I am so sick of hearing how great their IR database is - especially from them. And don't bother emailing that address. I emailed a ton of models to them over the past year or so and have NEVER seen one thing get updated. It's hysterical. Would love to see what is on the other end of that address!

So why don't you just use some other option that in your opinion, has a better database?

I do. And read closely - "better" is not what I said. I said "other". All I am saying is that there needs to be a better review of devices/components before codes are swept over. Otherwise, don't report them at all. Do you realize that you and your customer are obviously paying for this type of service? I don't see why you are getting offended by the criticism.

I am not getting offended, but I am seeing more posts of people complaining about the system that has been in place for years. It is still a decent database IMHO. Could it be better? Sure. But I have not had a problem programming any of the equipment I sell. Dealing with equipment from companies like Yamaha ensures that I will have the codes available, no matter what control system I use.

Maybe the posts with the complaints are from paying customers wishing for URC to actually fix the bugs and issues with their products?

They are not bugs or issues. No database will be complete, and theirs is rather good. Could be better possibly, and they could add codes sent by dealers, but the remotes are solid and what codes are missing can easily be added yourself if needed.

There are most definitely bugs in the database. Models linked to incorrect code tables, code tables that contain duplicate codes or codes that do not actually exist for the platform (look at the Apple codes for example).

Maybe they should prioritize codes sent in my manufacturers over those sent in by dealers. Just saying.

But...

My comment was in direct reply to your previous post where you mentioned complaints about the whole system, not specifically the code library. I've outlined numerous bugs in a thread that have pretty much all been confirmed by others, either in that thread or by finding other posts with the same issues. If you're not seeing any issues, I will have to hypothesize that you're not looking close enough.

So I'll say it again, no one is complaining for the sake of complaining. It's in hopes of finding solutions and possibly getting some of these real issues fixed.

I guess I'll have to build a couple of remote templates. I just really wish they had it in the database.

If you're looking to building your own codes, I also suggest you use a third-party dedicated learning product and do not rely on CCP and URC remotes for learning. They're just not well suited to it and won't produce the best possible results.

Global Cache has decent products, but I haven't looked at their recent software updates. The JP1 community has an excellent IRScope tool which can be used with the very low-priced and excellent quality IR Widget USB dongle. I use a combination of this and some personal custom tools and hardware, then import back to CCP using Universal Browser and Pronto Hex codes. The drawback is that the URC software/remote don't really have detailed protocol knowledge and with existing issues with repeats, sometimes you have to manually customize the IR format to achieve the desired results.

Again, I am not complaining about codes not being in the database. I am complaining about models that are "swept" over from previous models without any type of research or testing, etc.

Look, there is no perfect database, I get it. But why not properly validate what you do put in? Of course it's a valuable tool and URC preaches that. All I am saying is that if it's a managed effort it should be a managed effort.

Last, I personally think having an IR database that is thorough is a valuble asset. Having an accurate, reliable and thorough database is priceless.

I don't understand why the Yamaha codes for the new models aren't in there. Yamaha provides them, seems URC would have someone whose job itis to get those in the database, especially on something like a Yamaha RX-V473.
