Hi,

After using my mx-980 for about a year now, I decided I wanted to refresh it and make a new template from scratch. Sorry in advanced about the long post but I want to get all the information out there and hopefully someone will chime in.

My first step has been in designing the buttons and I have done the bulk of the work of taking a few of the stock buttons as a template for size and general text positions. With the use of some Illustrator and Photoshop "magic" I am fairly satisfied with my favorite network logos and such. I have written a few scripts and the logo packs of TV, XM, and Sirius from guifx.com to make ~500 custom icons. I'm happy with the favorite logos. I will attach a few examples and if anyone has a request I will happily try to see what I can do.

However, when working on the generic/blank buttons I have run into a few problems. The buttons in which one would usually use text to name the button it is defaulting to Arial centered in the middle algined to the middle with a black font color and size 10, when it SHOULD be bold Trebuchet MS centered in the middle aligned to the bottom with font color white and size 15.

Is there any way that I can change the default font settings rather than having to chance the settings EVERY time I add a button as this can be quite tedious.

Cheers,
CuTN

I figure I should also note some possible points where the problem may be.

1) I am currently using a folder filled with a bunch of .pngs rather than the default .vfd file. The naming structure I am using is [Descriptive Name]_L/R_N_P_#

My reverse engineering has been that I choose either L/R for left or right(note that I put left and right into seperate folders) N/P is for normal and pressed state and the # corresponds with the font settings of the font.ini file in the folder.

2) Tried editing the font.ini file and it doesn't have any affect.

what I have is as follows

[1]
UseName=N
Font=Trebuchet MS
Style=b
Fontsize=15
V-Alight=b
H-Alight=c
Color=FFFFFF
Hidden=N
[2]
UseName=N
Font=Trebuchet MS
Style=b
Fontsize=20
V-Alight=b
H-Alight=c
Color=FF0000
Hidden=N

My understanding here is that since I set left to 1 and right to 2 this should have the previously desired white text as described earlier and when pressed the buttons text will show up red and be larger. (ex file names: ABC_L_N_1.png and NBA_R_N_1 would be for the two buttons previously posted)

Please correct me if I'm wrong

In my experience the font always defaults to the settings you've mentioned. You can, after creating your basic pages, select ALL the buttons of elements onto which you'll have text, and then apply the same text settings to all of them at one time.

You can do this to an otherwise blank/template page and then use that page to create all your other pages. When you swap in your new graphics, the font settings will stay the same.

Haha... thanks man. Guess these are the results of lack of sleep and trying to figure it out at 3am (over thinking). But, I will continue to post my progress of examples of the buttons I'm designing and any issues I run into. Guess I will use this a somewhat of a build log

EDITNow working on blank buttons for devices with an on and off indicator. Done with the Illustrator files now moving onto textures in photoshop.

EDIT 2 Done with Blanks but same issue as before arrises with the normal and pressed state. You have to manually import the pressed state each time a button is added. Any suggestions?

Here are some examples and what I have named them:

(Blank_Device_L_N_1.png)
(Blank_Device_R_P_2.png)

I don't recall having any issues with pressed button images using the standard naming formats. I'll have to double-check this and will update.

Also, how are you using or planning to use your state (on/off) based images? While I've seen it mentioned previously that image state could be altered via the GUI in CCP, I've never come across information in the manual about it.

EDIT: As usual, the image changing is achieved through an undocumented (in the manual and help files) feature whereby you associate a button with a variable.

Mentioned in the forum here: [Link: remotecentral.com]

For anyone else looking for this info in the future, you can only change between the two prescribed states allowed for images, "normal" and "pressed" - the images can look like anything you want, but they must be the same dimensions in pixels. You can perform this image toggle on floating images that are not affixed to a particular button as alluded to in the linked post above. If you simply want to change a floating image, there's no need to include an alias to the image in the source button macro - simply changing the variable state will cause the image to change.

Quick question. How do you "alias an image" on the mx-980. I can alias macros, I can copy images I can move images, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to alias an image. I feel I must be missing the obvious.

BTW - I understand to do the above you don't have to alias an image, but I would still like to understand how its done. Thanks.

Ron
