Hello experts. I have been configuring my MX-950 for the last month. Learning as much as i could about the remote and what it can do. I have my watch button bring my a menu with the items that i can choose. For example

Cable TV
Satellite
TV
XBOX 360
DVD Movie

and so on

When i choose cable tv i have everything else turn off. Just incase someone went in and turned it on. It makes me feel better that everytime i choose a device i am assured that all other devices will be turned off. What i am having trouble with is have to code all other devices for a specific device. For example. If i choose xbox 360 i don't need the sat, cable, dvd powered on. So i ahve to configure these codes in everytime. Which could be confusing as im getting the delays dialed in for each device. Would im trying to do is have a little database of macros for certain functions. Like a power off macro for the 360. So i can reference it to a central location instead of making the cahnge at all lcoations. If i make a change to a certain macro everything pointing to it also change. Can i do this with the MX-950? I do have a power off menu that does list each device and the correct macro to power it off. It sure would be nice to reference it just once for all macros.

sounds like you need to use the variables

I wasn't quite sure how to incorporate variables with this? I don't want to depend on a variable to do another action because someone might manually turn on something. Can i have a little section with all the variables that do certain things and reference those variables?

I'm just a little confused how this would be setup.

For example a variable to turn 0 turns off a device.


So if i ever need to turn off a device on several devices i can just reference to this variable???

I don't think you need variables for this. Here's what I would do:

Setup a new device (I would call it MACROS). Within that device have a button for each MACRO you want to replicate elsewhere. Example:

XBOX OFF
CABLE OFF
DVD OFF

and so on.

Once you setup those macros you can refrence them just like any other button on your remote, in any other macro.

Thanks for all the reply's. That makes pefect since and will work perfectly for what i'm trying to do. Just one problem though, I can't seem to reference it to another button on a different device.

All i can see i can do is the GoTo page and insert commands from the IR database. Can someone please explain how i can reference a button on a device on a button.

So button one on device A points to button 20 on Device B? Ive been playing with that but can't seem to find it.

Going with the above idea..... Maybe make a separate device, called "Power" or "OFF" or something and then just make the big OFF button the remote jump to that device/page. That way whatever page/device you're on you can always press the main OFF button to go to a page that lists all the off macros.

I currently do have a power off device that does list all of my devices. I am trying to come up with an automated way to turn these devices off.

If i choose TV. several components like DVD, XBOX360, Satellite, Cable, CD Player, Stereo should turn off automatically. I don't think it would be necessary to manually turn off each device within one page, it defeats the purpose.

Remote Monkey suggestion would work perfectly if i only knew how to call other buttons with a click of a button.

So i can setup
Button 2 to turn off stereo.
Button 3 to turn off 360
Button 4 to turn off cd player
etc..

Then when i setup my macro i can link it by saying

Execute button 2,3, & 4.

This way i can reference these buttons in different places. The problem is that i don't know how to set it up. Ive i have playing with it for hours but can't figure out how it needs to be setup.

Can someone help with that?

well seeing as how there is no voltage sensing there will ALWAYS be an unstance where someone MIGHT turn something on or off manuelly...

But thats ok, Regarless if its on or off the macro will turn it off. So if it is on it will turn it off. If it is off then it will still send the command to turn it off. If its not discrete it will turn it on then off.

I just need to know how to map buttons to other buttons. Is it possible?

It is possible. When you are setting up your macro let's say WATCH TV, push the record button and start building your macro. When you want to include another macro, let's say XBOX OFF, just treat it like any other button. Go to the device and page where the XBOX OFF button is and record it. It will look like one step in the WATCH TV macro but when the macro is executed and it reaches that step, it will branch off to your XBOX OFF macro. When it's finished with the XBOX OFF macro it will continue through the rest of the WATCH TV macro.

If you make changes to your XBOX OFF macro, those changes will automatically be in your WATCH TV macro.
