I am working on my first KP4000/MRX-1 combo and had some questions that do not seem to be covered in the manual, or trainings.

When I put in a 2-way module for, say, Integra Pandora, what AVR command(s), if any, need to be in the activity macro? (I am planning on using IP control of the AVR if that makes a difference). There is not a discrete Pandora input select command for the AVR. Does the 2-way module somehow automatically tell the AVR to switch to Pandora?

This is what it shows in the properties for the Pandora module parameters:

ZONE=1
TEXT=
VOLUME=Relative
MAXVOL=18
IRADIO=Pandora
PRESET_NUM=2
tEXtSo

Maybe the "IRADIO=Pandora" is the key to this?

While on the parameters subject, what do the other lines do? Preset num=2? Text= ??? I better go re-do the 2-way training quickly. :)

EDIT:

After looking at the "Integra/Onkyo Now Playing With Lists Owners Manual" (located in the tech guides section under the help tab in CCP), I think I understand a bit better how it works. Seems like when you select the module on the KP4000, the AVR switches to the proper service (Pandora, Server, etc.). The only issue I can see is if you need the on-screen (TV) display for the Pandora or VTuner module. We just installed a simple single source/4 zone system using the KP4000 as the only control. No video source or TV in the system. I did not design the system, but hopefully I can make it work.

I'm not sure about the KP4000 2-way modules; but I'm interested in your findings.
I've played with most of the 2-way modules that Integra has to offer with a MX-5000 and without a display they're limited at best. Although they give "now playing" feed back on your remote. Navigating through VTuner, Sirius or Pandora is impossible without the receiver display or a TV.

They should really be called "now playing" modules because without a display "on" for proper navigation the module is quite frankly useless.
I really don't want to turn on my display to listen to Pandora.

I'm interested to know if the Kp-4000 has more functionality with 2-way modules?

It seems that there are 2 different types of "Now Playing" modules for Integra. Those with "lists" and those without. Not sure if there is a difference in the actual modules, or if it is dependent on the model of AVR being used. The manual leads me to believe that at least with Pandora and VTuner, you do not need the TV. But it is not 100% clear on that either.

I should probably just send an email off to URC tech support and see what they say.

Also be mindful that the Integra models only have 1 ethernet socket, so only use 1 2 way module at any time. Using 2 such as vtuner and volume monitory can cause lock up problems with the kp4000 or any of the other 2 way controllers.

Yeah I know about the socket limitations. I am going to the jobsite on friday to play around with it. She now wants volume control from the KP (we are using a speaker selector with VCs due to poor wiring from whomever wired it for the previous homeowner). I can use 232 or IR for the volume...no need for feedback on the KP. She is having some lockup issues already....I think only from the Pandora module. Not sure if it is because we are using the 40.2 module on the 20.3....but I am going to eliminate that module and test it without it. She does not want to swap the AVR out for the 40.2 we have. Not only would it cost more, but the thought of "upgrading" to an older model does not sit well. I can understand that. So we are at the mercy of URC to get the new modules out. :)

Step on it!

Although this is an old thread, I am reviving it to highlight the fact that if you plan to do internet radio with Onkyo/Integra and a KP4000, you had better test it in your shop before even SPECing it.

I have spent countless hours and for me it is no good. I am perfectly willing to admit that it's me if you can prove it. But...

For starters, I used an Onkyo TX-NR509 as a preamp/switch for several sources into a whole house power amp. I tried to access internet radio on it and display it on 3) KP4000s around the house.

First off, there is disagreement whether any discrete commands exist for Pandora and SiriusXM, which I needed for this client. Brian at Onkyo says they were all sent over to URC. No database I tried had working commands, although commands were LISTED in the database (I think I had to use the 609 to even find the commands).

So, with no working discrete commands, my macros for those two key sources were basically "net radio", arrow down umpteen times and hit select; there was no discrete command for hope and pray, otherwise I would have included it. Keeping in mind these are not normal inputs, the reliability of the macro depended on whether the receiver was connected and active on the net; if you were unlucky, it would "initialize" (connect); by that time, your macro was long since done. Add delays? What, a 30 second delay? Right.

With the wasted hours already in double digits, I sorta had them working and displaying on the KP4000s. But, if Pandora was playing and you selected it on another keypad, it might disconnect or it might take you to Pandora Stations, and not go to Now Playing. You had to hit your station that was already playing, which usually DID cause a pause before music would restart.

Long story short, this is not an application ready for anyone but a patient hobbyist. After assuming that these two companies would have it together, I will probably put in Sonos as a source to get RELIABLE Pandora and Sirius. I also get the privilege of doing this out of pocket, since my solution was junk and the client has already gotten his craw full of a completely unreliable package.

If you are even thinking about this - try it in the shop before proceeding. Maybe the newer series Onkyo/Integras are better.

I found little willingness to problem solve on URCs part. Multiple unanswered emails. They are usually pretty helpful, but not on this one.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Tom,

I feel your pain............

URC's so called 2-way modules are a joke with Integra!

In my opinion, they shouldn't even offer them if they aren't functional.
Onkyo's $4.99 I-phone app. has more 2-way functionality.

Thanks for your findings..........I decided to skip purchasing the KP-4000 based on guys like you!
It's unfortunate URC doesn't do a better job with developing their modules.
