EDIT: I'm changing the original header and topic. Original enquiry was about something URC tech misadvised me on and you guys picked it up & they confirmed.

I have the "Guide to Programming" manual and have tried the flutter & other techniques they describe for learning as well as varying distances etc but nothing works.

The codes giving trouble are for an Australian Mediastar recorder 8000 (known in Europe as Vantage - models 1100, 8000 & 9100 all use the same codes). The offending remote has RUX8-YC03NB printed on it if that is any clue to anyone.

Please help, this is driving me nuts. (correction - nuttier than usual)

John

I don't see it in the MX850 software. It does show up in the MX900.

I was under the impression that this feature was for toggle bit code learning whereby the code on the original remote changes after each press.
I don't think it would help if you are having trouble learning a code.
Also, as Joe says it's not in the 850 editor.

I have been given the code sheet for the recorder but am unsure the procedure from here.

The list is in two columns SD NEC 00DF and HD NEC 006E

Most codes appear to be the same for SD as HD

Examples: "POWER" = NEC 006E 0C
"1" = NEC 006E 09

I presume the "Universal Browser" window in MX850 editor is used to enter these. Help on precisely what to do would be appreciated.

TIA

You need Pronto HEX for the browser. The sheet is telling you that it is the NEC protocol, the device is 006E in hex (110 in decimal) and the function is 09 in hex (9 in decimal).

Using MakeHex (link), I get the following for power:

nec1.irp

Device Code: 110 Function: 9
0000 006D 0022 0002 0157 00AC 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0689 0157 0056 0015 0E94

NECx1.irp

Device Code: 110 Function: 9
0000 006D 0022 0003 00AC 00AB 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0689 00AC 00AB 0015 0041 0015 0E3F

Open the Universal Browser and press the HEX button. Paste the strings above (starting with 0000) into the Hex Editor. Make sure there are no line breaks. Click on drag and drag it to the button you want.

There are two options using slightly different protocols. Try them both and see if either works.

Thanks heaps dsp81. You and Jason (in another thread) have given me hope :-)

Time to unscramble the brains and learn a bit more. Unfortunately your link does not seem to work but I'll do a search and educate myself a bit more.

Not getting very far I'm afraid. I have downloaded hex2ccf.exe but cannot get it to open.

I've done a search for makehex and hex2ccf but haven't found anything very helpful, or what I can understand.

I gather all the codes were developed by Philips for the PRONTO (which I had before the HTMs) and the HTM and other remotes use these same PRONTO files.

The general thrust of what to do is understood, but getting the detail is challenging!!! I'd be happy to pay someone to complete the exercise (if it is USD, my son could forward a cheque for me).

Have you tried either of the codes posted above? If one of them works, I can direct you on how to generate the remaining codes. Try them seperately and post whether they work.

Here is the link for MakeHex again: [Link: remotecentral.com]

You do not need hex2ccf. You can put the codes generated by MakeHex directly into the Universal Browser Hex function of the 850 Editor.

Please excuse my dumbness.

I deleted the item altogether from MAIN so as to have a clean slate start. I then used a different name for the device and opened up the Universal Browser, and yes, it was there. Copied the first set of codes, opened up the Hex Editor window and pasted them.

I then highlighted "drag" and tried to drag onto the box for the number 1, but got nowhere. Nothing seemed to click whether the set of codes was highlighted or not.

I'm obviously missing something!

You need to click and hold the Drag icon. Move to the button you want and release. An "L" in a blue box should show up on the button you pasted the HEX.

Maybe the program has got corrupted because that is what I have been doing. Here are precisely my steps:

1. Open up the relevant file (has this new device listed but nix allocated to it)

2. Open Universal Browser (checking it is dealing with the above file)

3. Open HEX window

4. Copy & paste one of the above sets (starting at 0000 etc)

5. Click on the grag button & drag from the drag button up to "1" in the Panel View window

Nothing registers in the Action list window or anywhere else. If I click on the "1" button in the panel view window a red margin appears around the button but this makes no difference to the lack of drag action.

EDIT: Removed all MX850 Editor programs & downloaded again BUT same result - or should I say lack of it :-(

If there is a red dot (not an outline) on the button, then there is already IR assigned. If it does have a red dot, select the button and hit the Delete key (on your keyboard). You should be able to select "IR Code" and select Delete. Then try dragging the code.

And to be precise, nothing will register in the Action Window. It does change the Edit and Label Buttons window. The Button Name will change to "HEX DAT." The IR Code should change to "HEX DATA."

If you drag the code to empty button, it should immediately show an "L" in a blue box on the button.

You'll also need to click Save in the Edit and Label Buttons box after you have copied the hex.

Thanks for your patience - most appreciated.

Your pic finally made the penny drop. I had been dragging to the Panel View window instead of onto the pic of the remote.

That is the end of the good news. The bad news is that neither of those codes worked.

EDIT: I dragged each set onto buttons 1 & 2 and each showed a blue L. Downloaded and when each button was pressed, a signal could be seen to transmit but it had no affect on the recorder.

Here is the list I was sent:

Let's try the power commands from the 4 NEC protocols. Let me know if one of these works.

This is not funny. I dragged each of these codes across to buttons 1 to 8. All saved and each obviously transmitted something BUT none turned it off (it toggles ON/OFF).

Have they given me the wrong set of codes?

Or is there something I'm missing? Seems too way out for nothing to work.
