I bought another 880 today, and I attempted to download one of my existing configurations to it. Upon doing this, I received a message saying:

"MX-880 Editor is unable to download to the remote. It was previously programmed with a newer version of the software, You must connect to the internet and use live update to upgrade to the latest version of the software."

Sounds simple enough, but according to the software, I already have the latest version. I am currently running MX-880 Editor version 1.00.115 with firmware version 1.05. This is the case with both my desktop and laptop. I noticed that the new 880 has firmware version 1.08 on it. Clearly this is the problem, but I have no idea how to solve it. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the MX-880 Editor, but it still won't upgrade past version 1.00.115.

Anyone have any ideas?

I just tried updating my standalone copy, got the same version as you.

I'm guessing it was programmed with CCP.

I was thinking the same thing, but I dismissed this as being unlikely since the remote was brand new in the box when I got it. If I got it off eBay, that would be one thing, but it was purchased from a reputable, authorized dealer.

Well, if it's brand new, then URC is loading it with the latest firmware... which I guess is only compatible with CCP. The standalone versions are essentially being (been?) replaced with that.

Interesting. I didn't realize that the standalone versions of the editors were being phased out. If URC is indeed pre-installing firmware that is incompatible with the stand alone editors, then this is clearly the case. I had always assumed that as long as you had an updateable version of the editor, it would continue to fully function indefinitely. Looks like DIY'ers like me may be forced to start using CCP.

Yes, the newer ones do have new "CCP" firmware.

Supposedly, to get it to work with the standalone editor, you need to do the boot loader procedure (which was first mentioned for the MX-900).

1. Remove the battery
2. Hold down Power ON and MUTE , while inserting battery

This should put it in boot loader mode and you should be able to download from the standalone editor.

Bingo! As usual, Mike is DA MAN!!!

Thanks so much for your help! Everything appears to have loaded fine, and the firmware on my remote has now been reverted back to version 1.05. Is this something that I will have to do every time I want to download a configuration, or am I good to go now? Also, is there any disadvantage to using the lower firmware version other than its incompatibility with the CCP? I assume the stand alone editor will continue to get IR DB updates. Right?

You should be good to go as long as you continue to use the standalone editor. There's nothing "better" in the CCP for the MX-880. It's just more convenient for installers that work with multiple remote types. I don't know what they're going to do about updates. I don't see any reason why they'd move the "Live Update" server location, so it should continue to get IR DB updates.

I just did a live update in the standalone editor and see that i received updated IR codes so they are still updating the standalone editor.

I keep having a problem where the MX-880 editor Version 1.00.115 Firmware: 1.05 and the remotes firmware version 2.00 software says unable to connect. I have tried this on 3 different computers and keep getting the same error. Is there a driver or something else beside the software that needs to be installed.

Did you try using the boot loader procedure that Mike suggested in post #6 of this thread? It worked for me.

Yes I have also tried that on two of the computers I was using. One of the computers I am using XP and the other is Vista. I will have to try it on the third computer later it is my friends and that one is also using XP.
