I know through my chats with URC tech support that there is no updated driver to get my MX-950 to work with my Windows 7 64-bit laptop and there is no plan to create one. If I was to break the remote I can get an upgrade to the MX-980 for $200. I can't bring myself to break this perfectly good and functioning remote. I have seen posts on other sites but many of these were confusing. I have been unsuccessful so far on my own. Does anyone have a solution for me?

I'm afraid that there's no way to make the MX-950 work with Windows 7 (or even Vista for that matter). There are workarounds for the MX-3000, but they don't work with the MX-950.

Your serious!? I have seen numerous other posts with claims, but I have not seen MX-950 specifically referenced. I think I did see comments regarding the MX-3000. Wow, I am just surprised that there is no solution.

There are a number of posts on this if you do a search for "MX-950" and "Vista", but here's the post that explains it:

Which version of Windows 7 do you have? If you have Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate it includes a license for "XP Mode" which gives you a full version of XP running in a Windows Virtual PC. Virtual PC does support USB devices so in theory it should work (I say in theory because I've never tried it; I have an MX-980 which works natively). More details on XP Mode can be found here:

FWIW I've had no luck getting USB devices to work in "XP Mode" if the device does not have a Win7 device driver installed. I have not been able to install the XP version of a driver in "XP Mode" and get the device to work.

I believe the "XP Mode" is for "application compatibility", not so sure about hardware.

John

I use XP virtualized in VMware Workstation to configure my MX-950 and MX-850. Works great, but VMware Workstation is not free.

Two features of the product that would help the CI or DIYer are the cloning and snapshot abilities.
Cloning allows you to clone a full virtual machine or physical machine, so you can start with a base image quickly. Also great if you're still running XP on an old machine that may die, but you still want to use your old OS. It will clone an exact copy of that machine.
Snapshot allows you to take a snapshot at any time and roll back to that moment if needed. Great for testing new software.

It looks like I am able to get XP Mode working with MX-950, but this is with 32-bit Windows 7 (my work machine). I haven't done much testing but I can read the remote's firmware version and upload the remote's configuration to the PC.

I will try this again with 64-bit Windows 7 later when I get home.

Edit: MX-950 Editor seems to work in 64-bit Windows 7 through Windows XP Mode. I can do things like read Firmware version and download to remote. If you are going to use the integrated feature of XP Mode, be sure to right click on the MX-950's taskbar icon (icon resembles Virtual PC icon), click Manage USB devices, and attach the unidentified device (according to win 7) that corresponds to your remote.
