Taking a look at my units 'System' info and I see:
Total Memory: 64MByte
Available: 16MByte
System Used: 32MByte
In Use: 16MByte

on the other hand, URC's site has the following spec:

Memory - 128 Megabytes of SDRAM

How does this add up?

For sure does not add up. And another question, is your .ccf file really 16mb in size like the output display says? I have a small 1/2mb file with 1 device that I loaded to a 6000 and it took up 8mb of memory. Seems like a lot of wasted and missing memory.

the .ccp file on disk is around 2.2mb - some real strange numbers being reported.

I called tech support today and they are looking into it.

I don't know the details, but I can probably guess what's going on here. A number of things get loaded into RAM to make the MX-6000 work, including the Flash player and some other components. That's probably what's using the extra memory.

Dale, all fine and good and appreciate that there are other bits needed; but that still leaves 32MB missing. From a spec claiming 128MB, only 64+32 is accounted for. That still leaves a missing 32MB. On the other hand, if I simply take the "Total Memory: 64MByte" - its 64MB short. Someone care to explain the reference to 128MB?

Dale, I would think that the other bits you mentioned would be part of the "System Used" memory, not the "In Use" users .ccp piece. Anyway, to me it still looks like there is 64mb of memory missing.

Also, if you check the "In Use" memory after a hard reset it is only 1mb. Now that makes much more sense than the 8mb that my 1 device file shows.

I tried to upload that config to see how much memory it would eat up if I reloaded it with the latest release of software & firmware but the upload aborts every time I try. Another bug?

Tech support said there was a similar issue with early BETA where stuff that was not needed was being downloaded and thought that might be happening again. But, that was just a guess on his part.

Still no update on the missing 64MB. I don't think they've got 128MB.

...still no response (nor on URC Control Room either). Suggest URC update their marketing info, or explain the difference. Right now its false advertising

Well, you'd have to crack open the device to see whether it actually has 128MB of SDRAM, but unless they explicitly promised or implied that all 128MB would be available to the user, it sounds more like specsmanship then false advertising.

They sure did imply it when the unit reports "Total Memory: 64MByte", yet the spec states Memory - 128 Megabytes of SDRAM. If not, it is deliberately misleading. If the other 64MB is completely hidden/not available, what purpose does it serve, especially given that 32MB of this is reported as used by the System. Its a bug (should be fixed), or a lie (should be reported). Either way it needs to be fixed.

URC has failed to respond to my email on this question and still insists on advertising 128MB. Anyone find the answer? See the same question has been posted in the URC Control Room

From one of the head muckety-mucks:

The specifications printed in the brochure are incomplete, we actually have two kinds of memory in the MX-6000, one is used for operation, that’s called SDRam, the other for storage of both the CE operating system and the CCP configuration file, that’s called Flash memory. It’s actually about 50/50 split between the OS and the CCP file storage area.

So MX-6000 has more memory than reported in the brochure, which will be updated with this description:

SD RAM 128MB
Flash memory 64MB (approximately 30MB for configuration files)

Joe, thanks for finding that out.

A rather cunning marketing ploy by URC. My bad for not paying attention to the mention of 'SDRAM' as opposed to 'flash'. They should really state the amount of flash available, especially the 30MB for config files, which should be enough....but
a 2MB config file results in the following stats:

Total: 64MB
Available: 15MB
System Used: 32MB
In Use: 17MB (eh? How did my file go from 2MB to 17MB???)

Based on the numbers above, it looks like your config file can be no more than 4MB!
