Suppose I were an MX3000 programmer for an authorized dealer and my company went out of business or I was otherwise "out on my own"...what is the basic process for getting authorized to download the software (without necessarily becoming a dealer)?

For example, I wish to encourage end users to buy their own MX-3000 remotes, say at a Tweeter or online, but I wish to offer my services as an installer and programmer...will I be able to get rights to the software without having to become a dealer, or is getting dealer status not that difficult (i'm wondering if there's some Crestron style "testing" involved or if it's based on units sold per year, etc.)

Acutally, any advice would be appreciated, and I'm building a portfolio so if anybody needs any design work done perhaps we can help each other out (I did win the contest a year or so ago so if you liked my work it could be yours LOL).

You would need to contact the URC sales rep or distributor in your area for access to the dealer/installer website. From there you could download the software. However, unless your company went out of business or you went out on your own prior to August 1, you would already have the current, updateable software.

I am just a home user. I have 3 MX-700s and haven't tried to update for over a year. Now, I guess I am screwed because I can't update my 1.12.244 software. Is there a solution?

What is wrong with them that they need updating? That is the version of software I have been using for some time now. If there was some problem surely I would have seen it when I reprogrammed 3 for a client the other day. I added a TIVO S3 to each of his systems just fine and tweaked some buttons around.

Yes, as an end user you should get the updateable software from your authorized dealer. I was referring above to access to the dealer/installer website, which is a different thing.
