Radio receivers sometimes die. Happened to me on an RFX-250.
Something similar happened on a laptop's WiFi card... brand new unit, WiFi starts off fine and then over a period of 8 hours speed and reception gradually gets worse and worse until it couldn't see the access point 2 feet away. :-)
