Yes, you could do that, but I'd think you'd want to make the discrete "ON" and "OFF" assigned to the respective buttons and the "LIST" button as an LCD button.
As for programming assistance, try reading the programming manual. It's under the "Files" section here, or see the link I put in the other thread you made, NewGuyATL.
