Just a correction: DirectTV bought USSB and Primestar, NOT DISH Network. Dish Network is still independent, as far as I know.
Dish has been in the satellite biz for many years - the parent company is EchoStar, and I think they also used to make the Houston Tracker BUD(Big Ugly Dish) Equipment. Dish also now has 4 (soon 5) satellites, and will soon allow 500 channel access.
