DVHS with the HDR-205:
- Only from DSS, as it records and plays back the DSS bitstream through the DSS receiver.
- SVHS tapes OK, but may have a dropout or two.
- Quality is same as original, i.e. no degradation (unless you get dropouts from defective tapes, of course).
- Tape duration same as if recorded in EP, I believe. A DVHS tape is 5 hours. A T160 is around 4+ hours.
In other words, short of recording the DSS bitstream into a harddrive, which would require far more storage than currently available in Replay or TiVO, it can't get any better.
