The directv remotes are made by UEI, UEI's yamaha code is about ten years older than any tivo peanut, and any flaws UEI codes had were corrected either by learning feature or the use of advanced codes. Advanced codes are 3 & 5 digit codes for individual functions, like discrete ON or OFF. But sadly the flaws in the UEI codesets in directv remotes go uncorrected because they lack the learning and advanced codes features.

If you have one of the newer white directv remotes, the rc64 series, there are codes with ON command and ones with OFF, programming one of each to av1 & av2 devices give you both commands on the remote at least.
