It is possible to use an in-line X-10 receiver (installed in the ceiling fan box) but that would make the fan's supplied remote unusable. All control of the fan would then only be with X-10 commands. Also, the light would dim/brigten as you changed the fan speed via X-10 commands which may not be desirable.
