First, the X-10 part number for the RF receiver is PAT01. It is a RF receiver that should receive a signal for 150 feet or better. It receives the signal that the handheld remotes send and also would receive signals from motion sensors and other X-10 RF devices. It in turn injects X-10 signals into your electrical system to be picked up by X-10 receivers (Note: it is also a receiver on either code 1 or 9). The PAT01 has no effect on what IR543 or computer is doing. As far as where you mount the PAT01, mount it where it will receive signals from anywhere in your home (usually center).
