My taps turned into slaps, then into bangs, then into a cracked front plastic bezel on my vr 507 receiver to get it to work. After doing the fix I left the bezel off and took of the clips that attach it. I have the bezel sitting its position. I might reorder the plastc bezel and will only have to pop it back on.

When you said solder the three 'joints', I assumed you meant individually and not solder them together. It's hard to tell in your picture. So far it seems ok. Taking it apart isn't that easy. I had to tape the 'electrical ribbon' to the board because it kept slipping out of its connector. It slipped out after I did the fix and put the cover back together.. Those fools need to make those electrical ribbons longer.
